Johnny Damon is now a Tiger. He has officially signed a 1-year contract with Detroit for $8 million. He had previously turned down a offer from the Yankees, 2-years for $14 million. With such a small difference in salary, it seems that Johnny didn't resign with the Yankees because they didn't hit his desired number, 2 years for $16 million. Maybe Johnny really wanted out of New York. In his press conference announcing the deal, Johnny said Detroit is where he always wanted to be. "After I played for the Redsox, Detroit was the number one team I wanted to sign with," said Damon.
Damon is joining a solid franchise in Detroit. The Tigers finished second in the AL Central in 2009 and were one win away from making the playoffs. Just like last year however, they may have to win the division to make it to the playoffs in 2010. We'll have to wait and see if Johnny sees the playoffs again.

Antonio Pierce has been released by the NY Giants. I don't really know what to say. I know A. Pierce is seen as a great leader but I think defensively things started to come apart after Strahan left. And this past season, everything seemed to come apart. You cannot blame everything on A.P. but I am not too upset with this move. The only question I have is who replaces him?

So the highly touted Giant's defense fell apart this year and rookie defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan is gone. Now Perry Fewell from the Bills is in. While I dont know much about Fewell, the more I learn, the more I like him. It seems he did well up in Buffalo allowing few TDs while taking the ball away often.
Was it all just a coaching problem though? I can't help but wonder about the players. I question Antonio Pierce's leadership on and off the field and we need to keep our players healthy and on the field. Hopefully the coaching change and some rest will make the difference. We shall see what happens.
For now, like it or not, all I can say is...J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!
